Life in the Gas Lane

Monday, July 26, 2010

The linked article is a very well-written and researched opinion about the recent influx of drilling of Marcellus shale in Bradford County, PA (where I grew up).

Gasland also was released on HBO recently, and really sheds new light on what the locals had originally thought of as a "gold mine" for their area. Very, very scary stuff. Aside from the water contamination, there is also the issue that all of the drilling is, as a lot of the people from that area see it (myself included), "raping the land."

In a time when our country is desperate to end our reliance on foreign oil, I think a lot of people are rushing to find solutions.  Natural gas may be one solution, but at what cost?

Both the article and the documentary are definitely interesting and worth checking out.
